Why Is There A Need For Characters To Develop: Defining Dynamic Characters

An essential part to writing a story is the character because without them there would be no story in the first place, this is why writers take their time in choosing a character, from their name to their attitudes, they take into account what kind of person those characters are yet it is not necessary for them to be all perfect and good, there is no fun there!

Character development is one of the basic elements of in writing a story due to the fact that you have to establish what kind of character your protagonist is, this way the readers will get an idea as to what kind of person they are and how does it affect their relationship with others, typically stories begin with weak protagonists that later turn to empower ones.

Characters who are able to develop throughout the stories are called dynamic characters, in which by the end of the story the protagonist is not the same anymore, they have undergone a transformation.

Most protagonists in stories are dynamic characters, they are able to develop and grow through the course of the story because they are able to find solutions to problems they do not know of and later on change their attitudes and perspectives. A book would not sell if it is badly written or in most cases it will, but it has to deal with a lot of backlash from critics in order to avoid this kind of scenario happening to you, you have to carefully think of the characters because no reader wants to continue reading a book which narrates a character that does nothing.

Readers can learn from the protagonist growth as well, they are able to gain knowledge and learn values as well, these lessons will be something they can apply in the real world.

On the other hand, static characters are those that are stagnant, they undergo development on a minimal level or none at all, static characters are usually those that have minor roles and could even be the antagonist themselves. Most of these characters are actually given the opportunity to change yet they chose not to, the downside to having static character is that readers tend to get bored with their plain, platonic path, in the long run, readers experience no excitement at all.

In conclusion to this, static and dynamic characters do not have to be compared side by side because they come hand in hand giving texture to the story, you can combine both developments to avoid being platonic and dull. Wait no longer, apply these methods now and write the story you have always dreamed about, surely it will captivate the audience attention.
