It is when you are narrating a story that would involve writing in the third person. This is the reason why this type of writing is described to be in its narrative form.
To be able to understand how to write in 3rd person, it is good to understand writing not in the narrative form which is the 1st person writing.
When you then write an event as if you are seeing it in your own view is the 1st person format where you refer yourself in the “I” point of view. An example of the 1st person perspective writing is when you write “I saw her face for the first time and I thought she is really pretty.”
The next type of writing is in the second person, and it is written to “you” as the point of view. Thus, you will read articles written like “If you have not seen a beauty, take a look at her.”
So, going back to the 3rd person writing, this is the situation when you are acting as the narrator, and the perspective is that you are not really part of the story. The events of the story can be given life in whatever setting or mode, depending on the narrator’s views of an event, and this is the liberating part of this form of writing. As the narrator in the 3rd person writing form, you will then have the freedom to talk about the thoughts of the other character in your story, plus your call in making the story a funny one or a serious one.
To help a writer follow the 3rd person writing path, there are some tips to consider.
The first tip is to decide the point of view that you want to tell about, like if you stay in one character’s point of view (or limited) or from all of the characters’ points of view (or omniscient).
The next pointer is to decide the objective of your narration, whether your narration is only about the actions of your character or narrate all of both thoughts and actions of the character. Be informed that when writing in the third person perspective, you will only objectively account the actions of the characters and you do not narrate any of the feelings or thoughts of the characters.
The third tip in writing in the third person perspective is the choosing of the voice of your character or characters, and this is considered the fun aspect in this type of writing. Depending on how you imagine your story to be, you have the decision to make your character an ill-mannered person, or a witty one, or a somebody from society, and even you can form a person to make your character or make a group of characters to comprise in your story.
